The race for Nordschleife records has reached a new level with the entry of the Lotus Evija. The British automaker built an X-version of the electric hypercar specifically for a quick lap around the Nordschleife, which, although it may not have set an absolute lap record, was one of the three fastest cars on the circuit in its modern history. Perhaps the Lotus Evija X will even be released in limited edition, but this is not certain. So far, very little technical information has been revealed about the Evija X.

In the official Nürburgring lap record table, the Lotus Evija X is listed as a prototype. It is reported that the unique hypercar retained the electric motors and battery – but with a smaller capacity – from the production road model and acquired a new carbon fiber body with extreme aerodynamics. The electric car is equipped with a four-motor electric power plant producing 2040 horsepower.

This makes the Evija X the most powerful production road car in Lotus’ history. The race car is equipped with Pirelli slicks, as well as new shock absorbers and carbon brakes. All this helped to lap in 6:24.047 – this is the third fastest time, behind only the Volkswagen ID.R (6:05.336) and Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo (5:19.546), but the Lotus became the fastest car on the Nürburgring on a road car platform.

The automaker said the record was recorded on a damp October day, so expectations were low. However, the lap was good enough that Lotus wanted to talk about the achievement. At the same time, the company is confident that the Evija X can drive along the Nordschleife even faster, but did not promise new attempts to establish a circle.
