This is the TAC-6 – an extreme version of the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 SUV from the South African company Armormax Defense, which is ideal for civilian and military use.

Initially, Armormax was approached by representatives of the French special forces, who were looking for a vehicle for operation in a hostile environment. Thus came the TAC-6, which was designed with “the ability to go anywhere and come back again and again, with anyone.” Armormax says it never experienced a single mechanical failure in all its testing of the six-wheeler.

Each vehicle starts as a regular Toyota Land Cruiser 79 with either a 4.2-liter V6 or a 4.5-liter V8 engine. The chassis was lengthened to add space for a third axle. A second transfer case was also added to drive an additional pair of wheels.

Another key component of the TAC-6 is the transmission. Armormax originally developed a six-wheel Land Cruiser with a manual transmission, but delayed its launch about a year ago and decided to switch to an automatic transmission.

But this is not just any ordinary automatic transmission: it is developed and homologated by ZF in South Africa and produced exclusively for the TAC-6. It has been designed to withstand the toughest conditions imaginable and can withstand up to 1000 Nm of torque. The eight-speed transmission even uses a special cooling system, which helps in hot weather and when driving heavily in thick sand.

Buyers can order the Land Cruiser’s cabin to be armored up to B6, allowing it to withstand assault rifle fire. The pickup can also be equipped with water tanks, a fire extinguishing system, two spare tires and can carry up to 28 people. The TAC-6 also features beadlock wheels and upgraded brakes.

Armormax offers the TAC-6 with dual fuel tanks of 210 liters and 90 liters respectively, providing a range of over 2,000 km. The double cab model can be upgraded to hold up to 560 liters of fuel, while a 610 liter tank has been designed for the single cab version.

It’s no surprise that this beast doesn’t come cheap. The cost of the standard model starts at 1,558,000 South African rands or approximately 7.6 million rubles, and adding armor can add up to 1,296,000 rands (~6.4 million rubles).
