At the Polestar Day event, held in Los Angeles, the brand brought together its entire line and for the first time showed the flagship liftback in production form without camouflage. It does not have a traditional rear window – only an elongated panoramic roof, as on the Precept concept that anticipated the model, and advanced cameras. The power plant produces 885 horsepower, which is more than the Porsche Taycan, which the new product is tipped to compete with.

Polestar 5 is the production version of the Precept show car, shown back in 2020. For three years, Polestar has made few changes: the “commodity” liftback on the aluminum Sustainable Experience Architecture platform differed from the conceptual one by conventional external rear-view mirrors instead of miniature cameras, the absence of “suicide doors” and smaller rims. The interior design remains secret.

The characteristics of the initial version are also unknown. The most powerful and expensive version of the Polestar 5 will receive an 800-volt electrical architecture with a dual-motor power plant that can develop up to 885 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. All-wheel drive with traction vector control system.

The pre-production liftback was equipped with an advanced lithium-ion battery with StoreDot cells, providing very fast charging. It was claimed that the charge received in just five minutes would be enough for 161 kilometers. Perhaps such a battery will also be available on the production flagship. The announced range is 600 kilometers.

The Polestar 5 will be assembled at a Chinese plant next to the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 crossovers. The electric car will go on sale in 2025.
