The hatchback retained the same Heartect platform, grew slightly in size, acquired more technological assistants and a hybrid power plant based on a new 1.2-liter engine. There were no radical changes in the appearance, which was revealed back in October at the Tokyo Motor Show: it was modernized, leaving the model recognizable. The price on the Japanese market, where the Swift will appear in December, starts at $11,700 (1.08 million rubles).

The Suzuki Swift hatchback has entered its fourth generation. Fundamentally, the model has not changed and even retained its recognizable appearance. However, technically it has been greatly improved. Thus, the body has more high-strength steels and structural adhesive joints, and consequently, rigidity has increased. In addition, due to the increase in the number of sound-absorbing materials and the use of damping glue at the joints of the frame, sound insulation has improved. However, the Swift still has the same MacPherson struts at the front and a beam at the rear. Ground clearance is 120 millimeters.

The new Suzuki Swift gets a smaller radiator grille with a piano lacquer finish and all-LED optics with L-shaped DRLs. The standard spoiler improves aerodynamics: the air resistance coefficient here is 4.6 percent lower than that of the pre-reform model. Wheels are 15-inch by default, with 16-inch alloy wheels available for an extra charge. There are nine single-tone and four two-tone exterior paint options to choose from, including the new Frontier Blue Pearl Metallic and Cool Yellow Metallic.

The interior, designed with an eye to the “senior” Baleno, also has a two-tone scheme. The “tidy” is still analog, and next to it is a nine-inch touchscreen of the multimedia system, which is now raised above the front panel. The media system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The trunk, the threshold of which has been lowered by eleven millimeters, can accommodate up to 265 liters of cargo.

The equipment includes a millimeter-wave radar and a monocular camera that detects cyclists and pedestrians in front of the car. There’s adaptive cruise control, a driver monitoring system and, for the first time on a Swift, the Suzuki Connect service with a smartphone app.

Under the hood of the hatchback is a new 1.2-liter Z12E petrol “troika” with a volume of 1.2 liters, equipped with combined injection. The engine produces 83 horsepower (108 Nm), consuming 4.6-5.8 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle, which is less than the figure for its four-cylinder predecessor. A pair of internal combustion engines is made up of a lighter V-belt variator.

In all versions, except the initial one, the motor is supplemented with a 12-volt starter-generator, which helps the internal combustion engine at the start and during acceleration. It is powered by a 3 amp-hour lithium-ion battery, recharging it while braking. The mild-hybrid Swift is available with both a CVT and a five-speed manual transmission. The drive is front-wheel drive or full AllGrip, in which the rear wheels are connected when the front wheels slip using a viscous coupling.

Production of the new generation Swift has already started, and it should appear on the home market by the end of December. The price is already known: it varies from 11,700 to 15,800 dollars (1.08-1.46 million rubles at the current exchange rate). The hatchback will appear in Europe next year.
