Converted to rubles, this is approximately 2.5 million at the current exchange rate – almost half the starting price of the Tesla Model 3, which is the brand’s most affordable model. The long-announced “cheap” Tesla could become Elon Musk’s new move in the price war he is waging in the struggle for leadership in the global electric vehicle market. According to Reuters, he wants to establish production in Germany.

Tesla’s “Gigafactory” outside Berlin will soon receive equipment that will allow it to injection mold almost the entire lower part of the car, sources say. This will significantly simplify production and reduce the cost, and with it the market price of electric cars.

Thus, Tesla plans to get closer to its goal of delivering 20 million cars per year by 2030. Elon Musk relied on mass participation, unlike, for example, Volkswagen, which was focused on maintaining profits.

If Tesla manages to keep the price of the new electric car within 25 thousand euros, it will be one of the cheapest in Europe – slightly more expensive than the recently debuted fourth-generation Citroen ë-C3 hatchback. According to JATO Dynamics, in the first half of 2023, the average cost of a battery-powered car was 65 thousand euros (6.4 million rubles). In China, for comparison, this figure is just over 31 thousand euros (three million rubles).

The start date for production of the new product is still unknown. Now the German Tesla plant produces Model Y, the leader in the European electric vehicle market.

Tesla has long been planning to release a cheap electric car. In 2021, it was reported that it would be a hatchback without pedals or a steering wheel, which would hit the production line in 2023 and go global. In 2022, Musk called the project a priority, but moved the premiere date to 2024. Later, information appeared that they wanted to produce the new product in India by building a new plant there.
