Lunaz Design used new composites and fabrics for finishing, which were obtained by recycling food waste, old fishing nets, organics and polymers. For example, the seats in the DB6 are upholstered in apple pomace leatherette, and decorative trims are made from eggshells and nut shells.

The British company Lunaz Design, which has been restoring and electrifying classic cars since 2018, has unveiled the most environmentally friendly Aston Martin in history. This is a DB6 coupe with a modular power unit producing 280 kilowatts (380 hp, 700 Nm). These are installed on all Lunaz cars. In the case of Aston, the interior is of interest, which, according to the authors, contains an unprecedented number of biomaterials.

For example, marbled decorative overlays are made from eggshells and walnut shells mixed with an organic binder. This composite is completely biodegradable and can become an alternative to petroleum-based plastics. The door cards are finished with biopolyurethane fabric based on plant materials (corn fiber, wood pulp). It has a unique matte surface and a semi-gloss base.

The seats of the electric car are partially upholstered in leatherette, which is obtained from apple pomace, a by-product of the production of cider, juice and other drinks. The cake is mixed with water-based polyurethane and a cellulose backing is added. In terms of its properties, the material is close to the finest natural leather, but it is not yet possible to completely switch to it. “Low carbon” leather can be found in some areas of the cabin, as well as durable fabrics made from recycled cotton (66%), polyester (27%), viscose (6%) and nylon (1%).

Finally, the seat bottoms feature a new fabric made from recycled polyester (54%), “new” wool (35%) and nylon (11%). Tactilely and visually it is similar to knitted. The carpets on the floor and in the trunk are regenerated nylon with a backing made from polyethylene terephthalate, which is recycled plastic bottles. Nylon itself is derived from old carpeting and fishing nets. And although the DB6 still has concept status, soon all this variety of materials can be seen on customer cars.
