“Rossiyskaya Gazeta” cites the recommendations of the head of the wheeled equipment assessment department of the Alfa-Leasing Group of Companies, Valery Antyufyev, regarding the choice of a car on the secondary market worth up to half a million rubles. Antyufyev lists five such models, citing their pros and cons – and they also have disadvantages, despite the fact that the expert calls these cars “indestructible.”

The expert put the Ford Focus, which was produced between 2009 and 2011, that is, the second generation, in first place. This model is in the top 10 in popularity on the secondary market. Antyufyev recommends a modification with a 1.6-liter engine coupled with a manual transmission. But the Focus also has disadvantages: potential malfunctions of the cooling system, throttle and suspension elements.

In second place is Kia Rio, for which the expert noted “the reliability of all main units and high maintainability.” For half a million rubles you can buy a car with a mileage of up to 200 thousand kilometers, and it is recommended to choose the version with a combination of a 1.4 engine and a four-speed automatic transmission. Among the disadvantages are possible problems with the chassis, inexpensive interior materials, potential malfunctions of valve stem seals and ignition coils after 150 thousand kilometers.

The third place went to the Skoda Octavia. Up to half a million rubles you can find a car older than 13 years and with a mileage of more than 200 thousand kilometers, and it is better to choose the option with a 102-horsepower BSE 1.6 unit. It is this engine, in combination with “mechanics,” that has proven itself “to be reliable and durable,” notes Antyufyev. In addition, the Octavia of those years had a stable suspension and a durable body.

In fourth position is the Mitsubishi Lancer, namely the ninth generation of this model produced in 2000–2007. Lancer was included in the rating due to the fact that the service life of this car can exceed 400 thousand kilometers, and engines with cast iron blocks are especially reliable. However, you may encounter body corrosion, replacement of valve stem seals after 150 thousand kilometers, and problems with the manual transmission.

Finally, the top 5 is completed by the Renault Logan, whose engine often lasts longer than the body. Logan can travel more than 300 thousand kilometers, but there are problems with beam seals and wheel bearings. In addition, approximately every 60 thousand kilometers you need to change steering rods, ends and wheel bearings.
