In January-July this year, banks issued loans for 628.9 billion rubles, which is 71.5 percent more than in the same period of 2022. This was reported by the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI). Compared to the pre-sanctions year 2021, the indicator also increased, albeit slightly – by 0.03 percent, becoming a record for the entire history. Experts attribute this to the resumption of preferential car loan programs and market growth.

In July alone, Russians issued car loans for 165 billion rubles, which was a record for the entire time of observation – since December 2013.

Moscow leads in the total amount of loans with 56 billion rubles for the seven months of 2023. In second place is the Moscow region with 44.4 billion, in third – St. Petersburg with 38.2 billion. This is followed by Tatarstan with 28.7 billion and the largest increase in the amount of loans: it doubled in a year. The same 28.7 billion were borrowed from banks by residents of the Krasnodar Territory.

Early Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin instructed to study the development of the preferential car loan program until October 1. In July, it became known that state support would be extended until 2024. Now the benefits apply to cars manufactured in Russia worth up to two million rubles, and the basic discount is 20 percent of the price (25 percent for residents of the Far East).
