The restyling of the European Mitsubishi ASX may seem hasty, since the second-generation model was introduced not so long ago – at the end of 2022. But there is a simple explanation for this: at the beginning of April 2024, the Renault Captur was updated, and this is literally a “twin” of the ASX, with which the Japanese crossover shares not only the platform and units, but also some body parts. However, with restyling, the ASX has become more recognizable due to proprietary design elements.

For example, the ASX has an original radiator grille and front bumper with large air intakes, as well as a different rear design with a camera protruding from the fifth door. In the cabin, the differences from the Captur come down only to the emblem: the ASX has the same new vertically oriented touchscreen with a diagonal of 10.25 inches in the center, which we have already seen in the Captur, support for Google services, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an expanded list of electronic assistants.

Identical range of engines. This is a basic 1.0-liter turbocharged engine with a capacity of 90 horsepower and a 1.3-liter turbofour with a 12-volt hybrid “makeweight” (the output of such an installation is 140 or 160 horsepower). Well, the most expensive version is a full-fledged hybrid, equipped with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated internal combustion engine and an electric motor, which develop a total of 143 horsepower. The range of the hybrid ASX is 900 kilometers.

It is logical that the updated “brothers” Mitsubishi ASX and Renault Captur will be assembled at the same plant – it is located in the Spanish city of Valladolid. The start of sales is scheduled for May this year.

But Russians shouldn’t wait for the updated ASX. Mitsubishi finally left our market when it terminated the agreement on contract assembly of cars at the PSMA Rus plant in the Kaluga region – this became known earlier this month. Due to failure to fulfill obligations, the subsidiary of the Japanese company had to pay compensation to the plant in the amount of 2.95 billion rubles.
