Aston Martin has unveiled the DB12 Volante convertible. In technical terms, it does not differ from its sister coupe, but it is equipped with a soft top with an ingenious mechanism. It folds in 14 and unfolds in 16 seconds at speeds up to 50 kilometers per hour and with the same headwind. The DB12 Volante will go on sale before the end of 2023.
Supertourer Aston Martin DB12 lost its roof and turned into DB12 Volante. The convertible uses the same rigid aluminum chassis and powertrain as the coupe: a 4.0 biturbo-eight (680 hp, 800 Nm) and an eight-band ZF automatic with a shortened main pair. It also has an electronically controlled rear differential, a four-level electronic stabilization system and five driving modes to suit any mood.
The upgraded engine is 34 percent more powerful than the DB11 Volante predecessor. Therefore, the dynamics are noticeably better: acceleration to a hundred takes 3.7 seconds instead of 4.1, and the “maximum speed” is 325 kilometers per hour against 300 for the DB11. In addition, the operating range of electronically controlled shock absorbers has been extended on the DB12 Volante. They received different settings from the coupe, plus engineers revised the characteristics of the rear springs.

Finally, the highlight of the DB12 Volante is the K-mechanism fabric roof, which is only 26 centimeters high when folded. The top is an eight-layer sandwich, apparently borrowed from the DB11 Volante. They even have the same parameters: folding in 14 and unfolding in 16 seconds at speeds up to 50 kilometers per hour and with the same headwind.

Color – one of four to choose from: black (standard), red, blue or black and silver. The rest of the convertible will not differ from the coupe. So, in the cabin you can find a new media system developed by Aston Martin. Wheels are 21 inches in diameter. Regular brakes – with cast iron rotors. For a surcharge, carbon ceramics will be installed on the car, which reduces unsprung weight by 27 kilograms. The DB12 Volante will celebrate its public premiere at Monterey Car Week in California and go on sale before the end of the year.
