In 2023, the 20-year history of the Audi R8 supercar ends and the swan song of the iconic Audi model was the project of the famous German tuning studio ABT Sportsline. The Ingolstadt-based company, which made a name for itself by modifying cars, has introduced the ABT XGT, a road-going version of the Audi R8 GT2 racer. This project became the most extreme in the line of German tuners and one of the most expensive in its history. Work on ABT XGT lasted for two years.

During the development, at least 40 different certificates and permits were obtained, allowing the car to be used on public roads. Visually, the car differs from the racing coupe only in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires on forged ABT wheels (19-inch front and 20-inch rear) with a mono-nut fastening. The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 produces 640 horsepower, which is equivalent to a GT2 racing car.

Power is transmitted to the rear axle through a 7-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission. Top speed is 310 kilometers per hour, although this number depends on the setting of the adjustable rear spoiler. Weighing in at 1,400 kilograms, the ABT XGT is lighter than any other road version of the R8. Technical improvements include a new refueling system for conventional gas stations, as well as an exhaust system that meets emissions and noise standards.

In addition, the supercar received a new steering wheel, an upgraded instrument cluster, handbrake, central locking, rear view camera, immobilizer, as well as a new center console, electrically adjustable mirrors and air conditioning. The car has received all the necessary certification documents, including passing mandatory crash tests. A total of 99 copies of the ABT XGT will be made, starting at $650,000.
