The Ultra Performance Hybrid system will develop about 750 horsepower and at least 1000 Nm of torque, so that cars equipped with it will be equal in output to the Batur Convertible presented the day before. Production of W12 engines will be discontinued this summer – over two decades, 105 thousand of them were assembled. Adapting an engine to new economic standards is financially costly, which is what determines the transition to hybrid systems.

Bentley decided to replace the canonical W12 engine, which will be retired this summer, with an Ultra Performance Hybrid power plant. It’s easy to guess that it will go to the top versions of the Flying Spur and Continental GT, and the hybrid system will produce 750 horsepower and at least 1000 Nm of torque, which will be available in a wider speed range. The numbers are the same as for the Batur Convertible with W12 6.0, only the new installation will be based on a lighter V8 engine.

Bentley Bentley made a special Bentayga with carbon wheels

Cars equipped with the Ultra Performance Hybrid system will be able to travel up to 80 kilometers without starting the internal combustion engine. The indicator of harmful emissions for them will not exceed 50 grams of carbon dioxide per hundred, which looks like a mere trifle compared to 311 grams for the Continental GT Speed. Of course, consumption will be lower, but details have not yet been announced. The transition to hybrids at Bentley is called a new stage in the implementation of the Beyond 100 strategy. This plan was presented in 2020 as a response to changes in environmental legislation and included the electrification of the entire line by 2026 and the abandonment of fuel engines by 2030.

In the meantime, Bentley customers have the opportunity to buy a car with a non-hybrid V8 or a powerful W12 6.0 biturbo engine. One of the latest models with such a unit was the Batur roadster on the Continental GTC chassis. The limited-edition supercar is the third Bentley Mulliner model developed as part of the Coachbuild program. It is named after the volcanic crater Lake Batur in Kintamani on the island of Bali and will be produced in an edition of 16 pieces.
