A few days before the debut of the next, ninth-generation model, Toyota published a new teaser – it shows the rear of the car with HEV and AWD nameplates. The first indicates a hybrid setup, the second indicates all-wheel drive. Also included in the picture is the first letter of the model name – it will be placed between the rear lights. The rear light itself was partially illuminated.

A new image confirms that the ninth Camry will have a hybrid setup. And not just one – in addition to the HEV version without recharging, there will also be a PHEV plug-in hybrid. According to unofficial data, the model will be based on the TNGA-K platform, on which its predecessor was built; the range of engines will include a 2.4-liter turbo engine and a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, but the V6 will be removed from the lineup. The drive will be front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the gearboxes will be six- and eight-speed automatic.

There are also some details about the equipment: depending on the market, the new Camry will have a different interior – “digital” in China and a more classic one in the USA. As for changes in the exterior, the model will acquire optics in the style of the new Prius, and the silhouette of the sedan will become more sporty.

Production will start in early 2024, and the new Toyota Camry will most likely go on sale in the spring. The model can only be brought to Russia through parallel import from China, since the Japanese brand itself does not produce cars in the country and has not supplied them to our market since last spring.

The Toyota plant in St. Petersburg, where Camry was assembled, was sold to FSUE NAMI without a buyback option. The Obukhov Plant, part of the Almaz-Antey defense concern, became the new management company of the enterprise; the site will come under its full management until the end of 2023.
