The Chinese portal Autohome managed to get acquainted with the pre-production sedan with a twin-engine power plant. It is known that the Ford Mondeo hybrid will be equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo-four in conjunction with an electric motor. The new product will be offered with the ST-Line “sports” package, which for almost two years was available only to the most expensive 2.0-liter variants. The presentation is expected in the coming weeks.

There is no complete information about the technology, but most likely the hybrid Ford Mondeo will inherit the power plant from the Edge L crossover, only instead of a 2.0-liter engine, there will be a 1.5-liter one under the hood. In this case, the sedan will turn out to be a “plug-free” HEV hybrid, and the 8-speed automatic transmission will be replaced by an E-CVT variator.

The only external difference of the new product will be 19-inch “aerodynamic” wheels with five large spokes. There is no data on fuel consumption, but the hybrid will definitely be more economical than conventional versions, which consume 6.6-7.4 liters of AI-92 gasoline per 100 kilometers in the combined WLTC cycle. The peak output of the twin-engine unit is unknown, but the gasoline engine will develop 188 horsepower.

Currently, prices for Chinese Ford Mondeo range from 150 to 217 thousand yuan (equivalent to 21-30 thousand dollars). The hybrid is unlikely to cost less than 200 thousand yuan ($28 thousand). Sales are expected to start in winter.
