In the Chinese market, dealers now have “plug-free” gasoline-electric versions of the four-door. This Ford Mondeo is offered in rich trim levels (Deluxe and ST-Line), the power plant consists of a 1.5-liter turbo-four, an electric motor and an E-CVT variator. Prices are competitive: the hybrid costs from 190 to 220 thousand yuan (equivalent to 27-31 thousand dollars).

The peak output of the hybrid Ford Mondeo is not named, but the 1.5 turbo engine on AI-92 gasoline produces 190 horsepower and 222 Nm, and the electric motor is designed for 131 horsepower and 235 Nm. The capacity of the traction battery is purely nominal, because the curb weight has increased by only 40 kilograms (relative to the original version with the same engine and 8-speed automatic transmission).

The version with the ST-Line “sports” body kit has fuel consumption of 4.86 liters per 100 kilometers; a regular sedan is 0.3 liters per 100 kilometers more economical. The benefits of the comparable-price 2.0-liter version (245 horsepower, 376 Nm) are more noticeable: up to 2.5 liters per 100 kilometers! Chinese journalists claim that the hybrid components did not affect the capacity of the cabin and trunk.

Among the external differences of the gasoline-electric Ford Mondeo are aerodynamic wheels with a diameter of 19 inches and nameplates. The interior now features an original dashboard setup and an expanded menu. Three driving modes are available: energy-saving and standard, as well as sport. The new sedan will be assembled at the same Changan-Ford plant.

The Ford Mondeo is no longer offered outside of China: they preferred to abandon passenger models in favor of crossovers, SUVs and pickups. In the Middle Kingdom, they also don’t forget about the SUV segment: in 2024, assembly of the Chinese version of the Bronco frame SUV will begin. Fords from China will probably appear in Russia.

They would displace the Toyota Camry. If sold in Russia
