Especially for testing, German brand engineers built two off-road sports cars with final drives, one of which acted as a support vehicle. After two weeks of ascent, the pilots managed to achieve their goal. Previously, the record belonged to Unimog SUVs, which climbed the slope of the Chilean volcano Ojos del Salado to a height of 6694 meters.

Porsche has set a new world climbing altitude record for automobiles at 6,734 metres. To do this, it took a couple of specially prepared 911 Carrera 4S and an international team of specialists, consisting of representatives from Chile, France, Germany, the USA, Canada and Switzerland. For example, the RD Limited team, owned by the French racer Romain Dumas, was responsible for the construction of the cars. And they were fueled with synthetic fuel from the Chilean Highly Innovative Fuels Global, which owns the Haru Oni plant.

Both coupes, nicknamed Doris and Edith, retained the standard 3.0 six (450 hp, 530 Nm) and seven-speed manual transmission, but in appearance and design they became close to the Singer ACS. They got final drives (clearance – 350 mm), manual differential locks, underbody protection made of aramid fiber and a Porsche Warp-Connecter device developed for motorsport, which creates a mechanical connection between the wheels and, by constantly loading them, improves traction.

The record was set by the Edith variant, driven by Romain Dumas. The car was made lighter and more maneuverable than Doris, equipped with a steer-by-wire steering mechanism (in Porsche terminology the technology is called Space Drive). All this helped the 911 Carrera 4S climb higher than the Unimog U 5023 (6694 m), which conquered the Ojos del Salado volcano in 2020. The expedition of automobile mountaineer Matthias Jeschke used Mercedes to transport equipment and equipment. The SUVs received special tires, reinforced winches and a special system that made it possible to change the balance of the center of gravity as they moved.
