Both are built on a new modular platform and demonstrate the appearance of future global Renault models. In total, by 2027 the French will release eight new products. Some of them, like Kardian, will be built on their own architecture, others on the CMA “trolley” from Volvo and Geely.

Renault has announced that it will launch eight new models outside Europe by 2027, five of which will be in the C- and D-segment. The initiative is called International Game Plan 2027. It is part of Renaulution’s larger strategy aimed at strengthening its brand position and increasing profitability. The amount of investment in the project will be three billion euros. Well, the main drivers of product expansion are new platforms for Renault. There are two of them: a flexible modular “trolley” of our own design and CMA (Compact Modular Architecture), which the French acquired through a partnership with Geely.

CMA will build D- and E-segment cars with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and predominantly hybrid power plants. Design and engineering will fall on the shoulders of the technical center in Seoul, assembly will be organized at the largest Renault Group site in Asia – the Busan plant. The geography of release of models on the second platform will be noticeably wider: Latin America, Turkey, Morocco and even India. The architecture will increase unification and diversify the model range. The French claim that on its basis it is possible to create any cars from 4 to 5 meters long, with four wheelbase options and three rear block lengths.

These models will have front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, plus a wide range of engines is promised. It will include conventional gasoline internal combustion engines, bioethanol and gas units, as well as “mild” and full hybrids. Actually, the first cars on the new “trolley” have already been presented – this is the Kardian crossover with a 1.0 turbocharged engine (125 hp, 220 Nm) and an EDC “robot” and the Niagara Concept pickup truck with electric all-wheel drive. Both showcase Renault’s new “emotional and technological” signature style, but at the same time are direct opposites of each other.

Kardian is a typical urban crossover in the B-SUV segment. The Niagara Concept, in turn, is positioned as an SUV, which is deliberately emphasized by short overhangs, protective plates under the bumpers, high ground clearance and long-travel suspension. The concept’s radiator grille has a three-dimensional pattern, as if carved from a single piece. The large Renault inscription is stylized as pixel graphics. But the body coloring symbolizes versatility: green is adventure, yellow is sporty, gray is technological, black is power.

The Niagara is powered by an E-Tech Hybrid 4WD system. At the front there is an internal combustion engine with a 48-volt starter-generator, at the rear there is a separate electric motor. The French won’t say whether the pickup will become a serial product. For now, it only heralds the appearance of the next global Renault models.
