At the Tokyo auto show, the Japanese company demonstrated live the concept of a fifth-generation small car, which will be put into production in 2024 – eight years after the premiere of the current generation. Externally, the hatchback has changed more evolutionarily than revolutionary, almost retaining the same dimensions, but received a new interior and engine, supplemented by a starter-generator.

In the initial version, the fifth-generation Suzuki Swift will receive a 1.2-liter three-cylinder naturally aspirated Z12E, which the company characterizes as highly efficient and economical. It will operate according to a “mild” hybrid scheme. It will be paired with a variator, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

In some markets, superminis may be offered with a “pure” internal combustion engine without a starter-generator, while in others (for example, in Europe), a more powerful hybrid may appear. Be that as it may, there are no characteristics of power plants yet.

In Japan, the Swift range will consist of three trim levels: Hybrid MZ, Hybrid MX and XG, for which 13 color schemes will be offered.

The hatchback’s radiator grille and optics were adjusted, and the rear door handles were also moved from the rear pillars to the doors themselves. The new generation model reaches 3860 millimeters in length, 1695 in width, and 1500 in height with a wheelbase of 2450 millimeters. The basis, apparently, remains the Heartect platform.

The interior was decorated in the spirit of the “older” Baleno with light inserts on the front panel and doors. Swift got an analogue instrument panel and a free-standing touchscreen multimedia system in a glossy frame, a multifunction steering wheel and an updated climate control unit without rotating washers. Below it is something similar to a disk drive, although there are also USB inputs that are more typical for modern times.

An abundance of ADAS systems is also expected, including collision avoidance systems, driver monitoring systems and adaptive high beams.
