The shelf of electric restomods has arrived – the American company Moment Motor Company from Austin has introduced a new model in the Signature line, which involves converting classic cars into electric vehicles. This time, for a limited batch of restomods, specialists from Texas took a German Mercedes-Benz 280SL convertible, which was prepared for the installation of an electric power plant.

Work on a restomod begins in virtual CAD space with the creation of a 3D model of each specific car. Based on this data, the company creates a conversion plan to maintain the weight balance and handling feel of the original convertible.

In the case of the 280SL, that means a 62-kilowatt-hour battery pack that gives the driver a range of 280 kilometers, as well as a 400-volt powertrain with a three-phase permanent magnet electric motor producing 300 horsepower and 502 Nm—twice the performance of the original engine.

The conversion also includes power steering, power brakes, climate control, as well as a modern instrument panel, styled like the original one, with new gauges. Moment Motor Company is asking $135,000 for conversion to an electric vehicle alone, excluding the donor Mercedes-Benz. Customers can provide either their own convertible or contact Unique Cars Of Palm Beach, which will find a car – then the cost of a turnkey restomod will be about $250,000.
