“Behind the wheel”: an expert identified all the problems of a used Chevrolet Cruze car

An expert from Za Rulem magazine spoke about the advantages and disadvantages of used Chevrolet Cruze cars. The family includes sedans, hatchbacks and station wagons. Previously, cars were also produced at Russian enterprises – in Shushary and Kaliningrad. Among the weak points is the not very durable paintwork, which after 7-9 years is susceptible to negative influences. In general, the quality of the metal is very decent, which cannot be said about the chrome decor, which can peel off after 3-5 years. The disadvantages also include the fastening of the bumper trims and the trunk button that is not protected from moisture.

In the cabin, the weak points were the steering wheel braid and the leatherette on the seats. The owner may encounter defects in power windows, heating elements in seats, parking sensors and climate control equipment, which begins to make noise after 50 thousand km. More than 50% of all cars are equipped with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine, which has a service life of 350 thousand km. Opel’s 1.6 and 1.8 liter Ecotec internal combustion engines have a service life of 300-350 thousand km. The 1.4 A14NET series engine is less reliable (250–300 thousand km). This model has a manual transmission that is more reliable than an automatic transmission. Among the advantages are a strong suspension and very reliable components and assemblies that do not encounter serious problems. The best option is a restyled model with a basic 1.6-liter internal combustion engine and manual transmission (photo: Behind the wheel).
