The expert jury of the European Car of the Year 2024 competition, consisting of 59 journalists, published a list of seven cars that reached the final. They were selected from 28 models that are sold in at least five European countries and are available for a test drive. Further voting will determine the best of the best, which will be announced as the 2024 Car of the Year at the Geneva Motor Show in February.

The list of nominees for victory includes several electric cars: Peugeot e-3008, Renault Scenic, Volvo EX30 and Kia EV9. One Chinese car was also among the finalists – the BYD Seal electric sedan. Last year there were no “Chinese” on the short list. In addition, the Toyota C-HR and BMW 5-series will compete for the title of car of the year in Europe.

Despite sanctions and the cessation of official supplies, some of the finalists are sold in Russia. For example, the Kia EV9 electric car is offered on classifieds at a price starting from 7.8 million rubles.

BYD Seal reached Russia back in February. To date, prices have remained almost unchanged: the 530-horsepower version costs about five million rubles at most dealers, and the single-engine version with 204 horsepower costs from 3.5 million. As for the BMW 5-series, they ask for a car from 7.5 to 10 million, depending on the engine and mileage.

Last year, an American car became the winner of the Car of the Year competition – Jeep was recognized as the best for the first time. The electric crossover Avenger scored 328 points, beating the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and Nissan Ariya.
