This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Public News Service by Yuri Konev, a leading specialist in gerontology and geriatrics. According to the expert, older people are strictly prohibited from driving cars, as they pose a serious danger on the roads due to poor reaction.

The reason for discussing the age limit for drivers was an accident in St. Petersburg, in which a 90-year-old woman hit a pedestrian and then fled the scene of the accident. The gerontologist explained that as people reach old age, biological processes slow down in the body, and reactions also worsen. At the same time, a person may not be aware of the changes, feeling cheerful.

A pensioner crashed a rare Ferrari worth three million dollars. A 94-year-old pensioner went to test his license for the first time. A pensioner from Russia rode from Kuban to Lake Baikal on a 55-year-old motorcycle.

Konev said that Russia needs to focus on international age qualifications, according to which people aged 60 to 74 years are considered elderly, and people aged 75 to 89 are considered old. Upon reaching their 90th birthday, citizens become centenarians.

In mid-March, the oldest traffic violator was detained in Italy. A 103-year-old pensioner exceeded the speed limit for several days in a row.
