The American automaker found out that on pickup trucks of the F-150 family, the electric parking brake can be activated while driving. The Blue Oval is aware of 299 cases of sudden activation of the handbrake, of which in 19 episodes the brakes were applied on the move. The reason for spontaneous operation is a short circuit in the wiring due to mechanical damage to the wiring harness.

Ford officials concluded that the rear wiring harness may come into contact with the axle housing: the insulation of the circuit is broken, the copper wiring is exposed, a ground occurs, which leads to an unexpected application of the parking brake. The blue oval estimates that the problem affects one percent of new F-150 pickups.

At risk are 870,701 trucks manufactured in 2021-2023, and the defect was found in cars with a single exhaust system. Authorized Ford or Lincoln dealers will check all F-150s: if necessary, worn wires will be replaced, and the rear brake harness attachments will be duplicated with special clamps. You won’t have to pay for troubleshooting.

Ford leads by a wide margin in the number of recall campaigns in the North American market. A month and a half ago, the Blue Oval was forced to recall almost a million SUVs and pickups due to a ridiculous configuration error.
