Two years ago, the French brand showed the electric concept Renault 5 Prototype, dedicated to the miniature R5 from the second half of the last century. Since then, the prototype has been preparing to take production form, and this will happen soon – the premiere will take place at the Geneva Motor Show in February 2024. Now Renault has published several teasers of a commercial electric car, designed, like the concept, in retro style.

Judging by the images, the appearance of the serial Renault 5 E-Tech electric hatchback is indeed not far from the prototype presented in 2021. The key design element is the headlights. The marks in their center should resemble a pupil and give the “face” of the machine a human-like expression. The flared wheel arches are a nod to the R5 Turbo, while the taillights act as an extension of the body’s side panels, reducing turbulence and improving overall aerodynamics.

The hood with a large built-in panel with a traction battery charge indicator in the form of a huge number 5 here also serves as a reference to the past. The original Renault 5 had an air intake in this place, but the new one belongs to a different era. By the way, Renault recently used a similar feature on the prototype of the new Twingo: a three-section indicator was placed on its hood.

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric will have traditional door handles (the rear ones will be located on the window pillars), short overhangs and a visor over the rear window. Of the dimensions, the length is known – 3.92 meters.

The five-door will be built on the AmpR Small platform (formerly CMF-B EV) and will receive a battery with a capacity of 52 kilowatt-hours, which can travel up to 400 kilometers on a single charge (WLTP). Among the features are a rear multi-link and, for the first time for a production car, support for V2G technology, with the help of which excess energy can be sent back to the main power grid. According to some reports, a replacement for the aging Zoe will cost 25 thousand euros – 2.4 million rubles.
