The relevant data collected on the basis of analyzes of insured events was reported to Gazeta.Ru by specialists from the VSK Insurance House. According to experts, over the nine months of this year, Hyundai became the most popular brand among criminals. The South Korean automaker’s vehicles account for 31 percent of the total number of thefts in the country.
Also included in the list of the most stolen car brands in Russia are Kia and Mitsubishi with figures of 24 and 7 percent of all thefts committed. The most popular models among criminals are the Kia K5 sedan, as well as the Hyundai Palisade and Santa Fe crossovers.
Among premium cars, the Genesis G80 and Mercedes-Benz GLE were the most popular among car thieves. Chery Tiggo was included in the anti-rating of Chinese models. According to experts, in the third quarter of 2023, Moscow accounted for 45 percent of the total number of thefts in Russia. The Moscow and Samara regions are in the top three for the number of car thefts. In more than half a percent of cases, car thieves choose corporate fleet vehicles.
At the end of August, Hyundai and Kia cars became the leaders in the number of thefts in Russia. In addition, one of the most popular brands among the attackers was Toyota.
