Measures are being developed in the Russian Federation to deepen the localization of Chinese car production

Despite the boom in sales of Chinese cars in Russia, the level of their localization still remains extremely low. This was stated at parliamentary hearings on issues of supporting the domestic automobile industry by senator, chairman of the relevant committee of the Federation Council Andrei Kutepov.

According to him, from January to September of this year, 112.2 thousand Chinese-made passenger cars were imported to Russia. This is 2.6 times more than in the same period last year. At the same time, the share of Chinese brands in the Russian market increased from 8% in 2021 to 50% in 2023. However, this volume of equipment is practically not localized in our country. Meanwhile, deepening localization is a key aspect for the development of the domestic automobile industry. And here the cost factor plays a major role,” the senator emphasized.

According to Kutepov, Russian legislators have already developed a number of bills designed to encourage Chinese automakers to organize production and localize components in the Russian Federation. This should help saturate the domestic market with domestic cars, albeit of Chinese design.
