At the Chechenavto automobile plant, where an automobile cluster is being created, they plan to put models from the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant on the assembly line in 2024, TASS writes, citing the chairman of the regional government, Muslim Khuchiev. According to him, the development of local production is proceeding at a rapid pace, and the cluster’s products are in demand, including in the Northern Military District zone: more than one and a half thousand Chechen-made vehicles, including armored ones, have already been sent there.

Currently, the car plant produces Lada Granta and Vesta, as well as GAZelle Next. “You can already drive a Chechen GAZelle, a Chechen AvtoVAZ, but if you want to drive a UAZ, I think literally next year you will have such an opportunity,” Khuchiev said. Frets are produced in the amount of 10 thousand units per year; for Gazelles there is an agreement for 100 units per month.

According to Khuchiev, there is no longer enough capacity, and the plant is “actively making repairs and introducing new areas.”

As for UAZs, so far it has been reported that only “Pickup trucks” are being assembled, which are being adapted for military needs. At the beginning of 2023, it was planned to launch their production in Chechnya before the end of the year, and in the summer of 2022, they wanted to start producing foreign cars at the facilities of the future auto cluster. It was reported that partners were being sought in China and Iran, as well as in neighboring Belarus – MAZ was being considered.

Last week, Vladimir Putin said that the Russian auto industry is emerging from the crisis. He noted that “one of the hardest hit industries” had to go through difficult times due to its dependence on foreign supplies.
