The sports car has been preserved in completely original condition, and in the mid-90s, its restoration was carried out by the RUF Automobiles studio. The GT40 is equipped with a 4.7 V8, ZF manual transmission, plus it comes with an assembly sheet and photographs documenting the entire restoration process.

At the Kissimmee 2024 auction, which will be held in early January in the US state of Florida, a Ford GT40 Mk I in a rare road specification will be offered. This car was previously owned by Italian racing driver Umberto Maglioli, a factory driver for Porsche and Ferrari, as well as a winner of the Targa Florio and the 12 Hours of Sebring. The sports car came to the current owner about 30 years ago, and in 1996 it was restored in the RUF Automobiles workshop, which in itself is unusual. The specimen is called one of the best preserved. The car has never been in an accident and has driven just over 21 thousand kilometers since its construction.

In total, Ford Advanced Vehicles built three dozen road-going GT40 Mk I. They differed from racing cars only in the spoked wheels, floor covering, door pockets and cigarette lighter. The sports car is equipped with a V8 4.7 engine (390 hp, 447 Nm) from Mustang and a five-speed ZF manual transmission, and its interior is configured like that of “combat” prototypes: with a right-hand steering wheel and gear lever. This solution provided better visibility and weight distribution in turns on European highways, where traffic, as a rule, was clockwise.

Given its perfect condition and well-documented history, the sports car may well set some kind of auction record. In general, GT40s are sold extremely rarely. According to Classic.com, there have been only three transactions in the last 5 years, the most expensive being $7.7 million. That’s what they paid for the 1965 GT40 Roadster Prototype, the only GT40 roadster still in its original form. This prototype was driven by Ken Miles, Carroll Shelby and Jim Clark.
