Leaf has been produced for more than 12 years, and the current, second generation of the model has been produced since 2017. Last year, there were rumors that the Leaf in its current guise was at risk of disappearing from the brand’s lineup once the electric hatchback’s life cycle came to an end. Now more details have appeared: Automotive News writes that the third generation of the model is already in active development, and this is not a hatchback, but a coupe-shaped crossover.

The next-generation Leaf will be similar in form factor to the 2021 Chill-Out concept: a cross-coupe with a sporty silhouette and a high seating position. The Chill-Out was based on the CMF-EV platform and was driven by the e-4orce unit. The “third” Leaf can get all this (as well as an advanced autopilot). The new product is predicted to have batteries from the Chinese company Envision, which will provide it with an impressive power reserve.

According to Automotive News, the model is planned to be assembled at the Nissan plant in the UK, which will also produce electric Qashqai and Juke. The premiere of the new Leaf is expected towards the end of next year, and the model will go on sale in early 2025.

Europe remains the main market for the current Leaf. Thus, in 2021, Europeans purchased more than 33.7 thousand electric hatchbacks, and in 2022, demand for the model began to fall – 28.5 thousand cars were sold. The best year for the model was 2018, when 38.7 thousand units were sold.

In the spring of 2022, Nissan slightly updated the model: it changed in appearance and received an expanded list of equipment, while the price remained the same. The 2023 Leaf can be identified by its gloss black V-shape at the front, which was chrome on the pre-redesign model.
