Sales of the Champion Edition line have started in the Middle Kingdom, timed for the 2024 model year. This Chery Tiggo 8 Plus has a unified interior with the Russian Tiggo 8 Pro Max, and in our country the modified crossovers have been on sale for two and a half months, but the model has only just reached the Chinese! The updated version comes with front-wheel drive, but this is temporary.

Chery’s strategy is explained simply: in the Middle Kingdom, the crossover with the letter Pro plays the role of the flagship of the Tiggo 8 family, and the update of the simpler and more affordable Plus version was postponed. Now the Chinese Plus and Pro have a unified interior: an infotainment complex with trapezoidal screens, a new multifunction steering wheel, different door cards, a front panel and a central tunnel, as well as a passenger seat with an ottoman have appeared.

The main external difference of the Chery Tiggo 8 PLUS Champion Edition is the radiator grille with a diamond-shaped pattern. The design of the 19-inch alloy wheels has also changed. The color palette includes a new matte silver-gray shade. But lights in the spirit of the “older” eight, a new fifth door and a sports exhaust did not appear on the Chinese crossover, although the Russian Pro Max has all this.

For now, buyers can choose from two turbo engines: the base 1.6-liter produces 197 horsepower and 290 Nm, the optional 2.0-liter produces 254 horsepower and 390 Nm. In any case, you will have to be content with front-wheel drive and a 7-speed preselective “robot”. The most expensive V8 in China has recently had a classic 8-speed automatic transmission.

Prices for the updated crossovers range from 125 to 146 thousand yuan (equivalent to 17.3-20.3 thousand dollars). For comparison, the “pre-reform” version costs from 118 to 163 thousand yuan (16.4-22.7 thousand dollars): the price breakdown is explained by the fact that the most equipped options are all-wheel drive.
