The automaker confirmed that eight Wrangler 4xe ATVs caught fire while parked due to a defective battery. Six cars caught fire while charging, two more were not connected to the terminal. The problem concerns a whole galaxy of SUVs of the 2021-2024 model years: 32.1 thousand cars will be recalled in the USA, 3.8 thousand cars in Canada, and another 9.2 thousand all-terrain vehicles will be repaired in other countries.

Stellantis is not aware of any accidents related to battery defects. Details about the malfunction are not provided, but what is known is that Jeep dealers will have to update the battery software and, in some cases, replace the battery assembly. Only one percent of the recalled Wrangler 4xe will require repairs.

Jeep estimates that hybrid SUVs are safe to drive and may cause a fire while charging. Therefore, owners are advised to park on the street, away from other cars and buildings. The Wrangler 4xe SUV is one of the most popular plug-in hybrids in North America.

Recently, thanks to the leak of internal Jeep documents, it became known when the well-deserved SUV will switch to electric propulsion. Stellantis’ plan calls for the next-generation Wrangler to be an electric vehicle or a gasoline-powered “stretch extender” hybrid.
