In China, at the Guangzhou Auto Show, four-door cars debuted for the local market. The ninth generation Camry from the GAC-Toyota factory differs from the North American version in bumpers, interior design, and most importantly, an expanded engine range. The base sedan retains the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine, with alternatives being the gasoline-electric versions 2.0 HEV and 2.5 HEV.
The premiere of the new generation Toyota Camry took place last Wednesday, but the Chinese version traditionally differs from the “global” one. Markers of such a sedan are diamond-shaped air intake slots, the absence of black unpainted elements of the rear bumper and other wheels. Much more changes in the cabin: the interface is different!

The Chinese Toyota Camry has an original front panel, its own multimedia system design, automatic transmission selectors, trunk opening buttons and fuel filler flap are different. There is no separate climate control unit: all settings are only via the touchscreen! There is no volume control puck, but the touch screen has added virtual “hot” keys. Finishing materials are simpler.

GAC-Toyota has confirmed that the base sedan will retain its naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine. We are probably talking about the M20C engine (177 horsepower, 207 Nm) in conjunction with a CVT. Alternatives are hybrid versions of the HEV type with an electromechanical CVT and an electric motor. It is likely that in China the new Camry will only be front-wheel drive. Data on the power of power plants is not yet available.
The start of sales of the new Chinese Toyota Camry is expected in the coming weeks. A significant increase in price is not expected, and the current model costs from 180 to 270 thousand yuan (equivalent to 25-37 thousand dollars). In Russia, new sedans from the GAC-Toyota division may also appear.
