An application submitted by the Kaliningrad plant Avtotor has appeared in the open database of Rospatent, which contains a graphic solution for the logo for a future electric car of its own design, Drom.ru found out. Logos for two brands have been patented: “Amber Auto” and “Avtotor Amber”. The name Amber (or “Amber”) will be given to a subcompact two-seater electric vehicle of the L7e class (heavy quadricycles), which is now being prepared for production.
The fact that Avtotor would create a brand of electric cars, Amber Auto, became known in early August. Then the head of the automobile company, Vladimir Shcherbakov, said that under this name (Amber Auto, AA or “Yantar”) electric cars of Avtotor’s own design, aimed at youth and young families, would appear on the market. These will be cars with a design reminiscent of MINI, with different types of power plants and a reasonable price of 1 million rubles. Avtotor already has samples of all components. The next stage will be testing.

The first sketches of a car of Avtotor’s own design appeared on the Internet a year ago – these were slides from a factory presentation at the Kaliningrad plant. They show a subcompact two-seater car that looks more like a Smart than the MINI model Shcherbakov mentioned. The length of the model will be approximately three meters, and the body itself will be single-volume and three-door. The supporting frame will be made of high-strength aluminum-magnesium alloy profiles and molded aluminum parts. The external panels will be made of composites – polypropylene and polycarbonate – and the elements will be connected to each other by laser welding.
Of the components and assemblies, the most expensive will be the traction battery – it will account for 37 percent of the cost of the electric vehicle. At the same time, Avtotor states that the car will be assembled from domestic parts, most of which are planned to be produced in Kaliningrad.
The Kaliningrad plant will invest 3.97 billion rubles in the project. According to Avtotor’s plans, production of the new product will begin in 2024, and the company can potentially produce up to 50 thousand cars annually.
