The plant in the Kaluga region, now owned by the Automobile Motor Society (AMO), as stated, managed to return to work by the end of 2023. According to the telegram channel “Autopotok”, the assembly line “Ural 6×4” and “Ural 6×6” has been launched in test mode, which will be sold under the AMO or Next brand. Later, they will be accompanied on the assembly line by cars from as yet unnamed “partners from Asia.”

For now, the Urals are being assembled in test mode. It is not yet clear when the official production will begin, but its start may coincide with the arrival of the Governor of the Kaluga Region, Vladislav Shapsha. He promised that next year the enterprise will reach its full design capacity – 15 thousand cars per year.

The plant in Kaluga has been operating since 2009. Last year, the production of Volvo trucks stopped, and later the Swedish company sold it to AMO, part of the Industrial Investments Group, without a buyback option. In November it was reported that AMO was actively recruiting specialists for the new structure.

The industrial partner of the plant was Ural, whose actual owner, businessman Dmitry Strezhnev, is associated with Industrial Investments. However, he will not be the only partner: negotiations are already underway with several companies from Asia, whose cars they want to put on the assembly line with further localization.

But another idle enterprise – the Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg – will not return to work in 2023. The downtime mode on it has officially been extended until December 31. Previously, Hyundai Rio, Solaris and Creta were assembled at the site, but production stopped after the start of the SVO.
