The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the People’s Republic of China has revealed the appearance of the new BJ30, a budget model that is the base in the BAIC line. The designers of the Chinese concern again played on Jeep motifs: the “thirty” is similar to the Avenger and Renegade crossovers in its optics and appearance. However, the Beijing BJ30 is by no means small in size: the new product is larger than the Haval Dargo!

The length/width/height of the second generation Beijing BJ30 are 4730/1910/1790 millimeters, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2820 millimeters. Compared to its predecessor, the length has increased by 22.5 centimeters, the wheelbase has increased by 14.5 centimeters! The engine matches its dimensions: the “thirty” is now equipped with a 1.5 turbo engine from the large Beijing X7 crossover.

The power unit develops 188 horsepower. The expected torque is at least 300 Nm. Probably, the turbo-four will work in conjunction with a 7-speed preselective robot, but the presence of all-wheel drive on the BJ30 is questionable. The predecessor had only front drive wheels. However, the multi-link suspension of the new Beijing BJ30 hints that a clutch transmission is technically possible.

In Russia, at the Kaliningrad Avtotor they assemble (or plan to assemble) larger models of the BAIC concern, but over time the “thirty” may also be registered in our country. More details about the model will appear after the Chinese premiere: it will probably take place before the end of the year.
