Their production will be carried out by the Murom Machine-Building Plant in the Vladimir region, which received a preferential loan in the amount of 2.2 billion rubles as part of a large investment project. At the facilities of Murommashzavod they will start producing electric power steering racks for cars on the Aurus platform, which will then be installed on GAZelle and Sobol. Due to the increase in production volumes, the cost of the unit will decrease.

In addition to steering racks, Murommashzavod will start producing gearboxes and rear axles for tractors from the Kovrov Electromechanical Plant, as well as electric portal axles for KamAZ and Volgabus electric buses.

Now they use bridges from the Chinese HanDe, and before that from the German ZF. Mass production of axles for battery-powered buses should start at the end of 2024, but Murommashzavod does not yet have supply contracts with GAZ and KamAZ, which produce electric buses, Kommersant clarifies.

At first, the Murom plant plans to produce up to 200 axles, two thousand racks and 500 gearboxes annually. The products will be “anti-sanction”: up to 94 percent of the raw materials used in them will be provided by domestic suppliers. 75 additional jobs will be created to produce new products.

Meanwhile, KamAZ approved a development strategy until 2030. The automobile plant intends to increase the production of trucks to 60 thousand per year, investing 380 billion rubles in this over six years. According to estimates, revenue should also increase significantly – to 806 billion, which is almost 2.5 times more than in 2023.
