At the Guangzhou Auto Show, details about the Mazda CX-50 HEV were revealed. It turned out that the gasoline-electric version inherited the hybrid system from the Chinese Toyota RAV4 and Wildlander! Under the hood is a system consisting of a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated A25D, an electric motor and an electromechanical CVT, with the option of an e-Four electric all-wheel drive with a separate electric motor at the rear.

Mazda has not advertised its partnership with Toyota, but in the documents the powertrain characteristics are exactly the same as the RAV4 HEV and Wildlander HEV. A naturally-aspirated engine with a working volume of 2487 cubic centimeters (178 horsepower, 221 Nm) is combined with an electric motor (120 horsepower, 202 Nm); all-wheel drive crossovers have another electric motor at the rear (54 horsepower, 121 Nm).

The peak output of the Mazda hybrid is 218 horsepower, fuel consumption is 5.1-5.56 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle. Compared to regular gasoline CX-50s with Mazda naturally aspirated engines and a 6-speed automatic transmission, savings reach 25-30 percent. Buyers will be able to choose between four trim levels.

Interestingly, the Mazda CX-50 HEV is cheaper than the original Toyota. Depending on the equipment and type of drive, prices range from 196 to 240 thousand yuan (equivalent to 27-33 thousand dollars). Toyota Wildlander for a comparable amount can only be purchased with dealer discounts. A regular Mazda CX-50 costs from 160 thousand yuan (22 thousand dollars) in China.
